SEP 23, 2022  (21H51)
You knew it was no ordinary doubles match with Roger Federer playing his last career game along with Rafael Nadal at the Laver Cup. After making it 2-1, a video tribute was played from his parter, and everyone was invited to a "Toast to Roger".

Although it ended in defeat for Federer, he still offered us great memories to take away, displaying his liquid backhand and that nimble footwork he used to showcase during all those years.

It was also beautiful to see, considering that the Swiss had not played any matches in 15 months.

The record will show 6-4 6-7 11-9 against Americans Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock, but it must be underlined that the 41-year-old went through it without his serve being broken.

Fans and observers appreciated that Nadal and Federer really seemed to enjoy playing this game together, sharing jokes at the changeovers with their team mates. Novak Djokovic also made suggestions to help them with their strategy against the Americans.

Federer's presence and final game brought many public figures to the 02, with the likes of Anna Wintour, Stefan Edberg, and Bear Grylls attending among others.

Although he lost, Federer received a well deserved emotional ovation at the end of the night in a place he can definitely call home, saying:

"It's been a wonderful day, I told the guys I'm happy, not sad,' said Federer. ‘It feels like a celebration to me."
