TRAVEL DISRUPTION CONTINUES DUE TO FURTHER STRIKES

Travel chaos is due to continue today due to a further 48 hour strike of rail, bus and highways workers in the continuing dispute over pay and conditions as talks broke down on Thursday.

There are two groups represented by the union, are Network Rail, acting for signallers and maintenance workers, the Rail Delivery Group, representing workers at 14 train companies in total the union are working on behalf of 40,000 people over the two groups. The members will strike today and tomorrow, and then again on 3-4 January and 6-7 January, with members at Network Rail also striking from 6.30pm on Christmas Eve until 6am on 27 December.

Passengers have been urged not ro travel on the rail network during these periods.
