FOUR PEOPLE CRITICAL AFTER CRUSH AT BRIXTON ACADEMY

BY CATHY NICOLE CARR
Four people are in a critical condition in hospital after a crush at a London music venue.

It happened at the Brixton O2 Academy, where singer Asake was due to perform.

Around 9.30pm the police arrived after reports of huge amounts of people trying to get in without a ticket.

The show was stopped halfway through and fans were reportedly told that:

"‘3,000 people had breached the door"

There have been videos posted by eyewitnesses on the scene which show crowds pushing past security and into the venue.

Other footage shows the police trying to force a large crowd away from the main entrance of the venue, which is on Stockwell Road.

The concert was the final performance in a three-night run by the popular Nigerian Afrobeats singer.

Eight people were taken to hospital and four remain in a critical condition.

The venue on Brixton's Stockwell Road has been cordoned off and detectives have launched an urgent investigation.

Met Police gold commander Ade Adelekan described the incident as:

"extremely distressing"
