HENRY CAVILL AXED AS SUPERMAN

Fans of Superman actor Henry Cavill will be devastated at the news coming out of DC this week. The Brit will not be donning the red cape and flying around our screens once more, as we all hoped. Despite announcing just weeks ago that he was leaving his role as Geralt of Rivera in the Netflix production born from the popular video game series, The Witcher, to concentrate on the Superman project, Cavill made the revelation in an Instagram post this week. Director James Gunn had this to say :

"Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman's life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we're big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future."

So it looks like DC studios' new co-chairman Gunn is taking Superman's story on a different arc and focusing back to the early days, therefore bringing in a younger actor in to carry the franchise into 2023 and beyond. This is not the news many fans were hoping for, as Cavill has really made the Superman role his own over the last few years. The announcement comes as part of a complete upheaval at DC studios and parent company Warner Brothers, with projects being scrapped left right and centre in a bid to cut costs after merging with Discovery Inc. Fire James Gunn has been trending on Twitter, over the last couple of days.

It's not all bad news for Cavill fans though, as he announced a new project he will be working on with Amazon Prime. The former "Tudors" actor will be, "guiding a Warhammer cinematic universe into life."

It's not yet clear in what capacity Cavill will be involved with the fantasy series project, wether it be on screen or behind it, but with the money Amazon throws at its projects we will surely be in for a treat.
