RISHI SUNAK TO BE THE NEW PM

Rishi Sunak will be the next prime minister of the United Kingdom after winning the conservative party leadership contest. He is the UK's first British Asian PM, and, also at the age of 42, he is the youngest prime minister in more than a century.

The new PM has said:
"I pledge that i will service you with integrity and humility"

He added, in a short statement, that he will
"Work day in and day out to deliver for the British people"

His main rival Penny Mordaunt had dropped out of the race a few minutes before nominations were closed. Former PM Boris Johnson had earlier withdrew his interest in running again after resigning a few months back.

Labour MP Angela Rayner said:
"The Tories have crowned Rishi Sunak without him saying a word about what he would do as a PM"

She reiterated labours call for a general election, which has also been echoed by the Liberal democrats, the Scottish national party and the Green party.

This comes after former MP Liz Truss stepped down from her role as party leader and PM after just 45 days in office, the shortest in history.
