PRIDE OF BRITAIN

OCT 25, 2022  (14H17)      JAMES SMITH
8-year-old Elizabeth Soffle, who survived a horrific cot fire aged just 6 months old, picked up the child of courage award at last nights pride of Britain Awards.

The brave young girl has raised over £200,000 for the hospital that treated her, despite undergoing 80 operations since her life changing accident.

F1 and strictly fan Elizabeth was handed the award by Formula one driver Daniel Ricardo. Strictly judge Shirley Ballas was moved to tears by the young girl and wrapped her arms around her in an emotional embrace.

She told the girl:
" I had a tear back there."

" I thank you for inspiring me, you are absolutely adorable. You are such an unbelievable spirit and we are all so proud. You are beautiful in every way and with a heart that shines."

Elizabeth told presenter Carol Vorderman:
" It was a big surprise."

She then got even more than she hoped when she and her family were invited to Silverstone race track next year to go in the pit lane

Another emotional moment on the night was the teenage of courage award given to schoolgirl Lucy Montgomery, after she saved a young French boy whilst on holiday in France last year.

Eight year old Mathieu was in trouble in the river Charente and swept away on his paddle board. 15-year-old Lucy swam out, despite the strong currents, and brought the boy back. However Lucy's dad, who has been trying to help, had also been swept out. She saved him as-well and had to float back to shore due to being so exhausted.

The young boy said as he smiled and looked at Lucy:
" Lucy is my friend and my superhero."
