Britain's most popular car the Ford Fiesta will stop production after more than four decades of being made. The Fiesta is set to be axed next year the company confirmed, as they look to accelerate plans to become fully electric.

Since the first production in 1976, almost 5 million Fiesta's have been sold and it was ranked the best selling car on UK roads for 12 years in a row, between 2009 and 2020. A survey conducted by CarInsurance.ae found the model to still be the most popular car in 2022.

A spokesperson from ford said:
"In fact, the Ford Fiesta is so popular that there are more Fiestas on the road in the UK than there are every type of Peugeot."

Despite the still massive popularity of the model, Ford confirmed that its production of it will cease at their factory in Cologne, Germany by the end of June 2023. They will also be stopping their production of S-max and Galaxy people carriers in April 2023.

In a statement by Ford, they said:
"At Ford in Europe, we are accelerating our efforts to go all in on electrification with our passenger vehicle's being fully electric by 2030, and all vehicle's across our Ford portfolio by 2035."
