TODAY'S STRIKE ACTION AND HOW IT COULD IMPACT YOU

If your having trouble keeping up with who is on strike when at the minute we are here to help.

Today Wednesday 14th December Driving examiners, and Rail workers will be joined by Royal Mail workers on strike as industrial action across the country increases with further strikes announced up until February 2023.

The Strike calendar includes dates of when the various industries will walk out in an attempt to negotiate better pay deals with news of further strikes emerging in the next 24 hours. The industries affected range from frontline NHS staff, Teachers to Baggage handlers and Border force Patrols.

Alongside Royal Mail, Railworkers and driving examiners the midwives and maternity support workers in Wales along with physiotherapists in England and Wales, have all voted in support of industrial action. This follows on from nurses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland who are set to strike in a row over pay on Thursday after talks with the Government broke down on Monday night. It is believed that this action will result in thousands of appointments to being cancelled in the next few days.

In addition to these sections of society it has also been announced that the Members of the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) will be followed by workers from the National Highways, the Border Force and a number of offices in the Department for Work and Pensions following suit in the coming weeks.

In order to combat these staff walkouts it is believed that the military and civil servants are likely to be brought in to cover Border Force staff whist the armed forces will be deployed to hospital trusts ahead of the ambulance worker strike.

According to the Office for National Statistics a whooping 417,000 working days have been lost to labour disputes in October, which is the highest since November 2011.

The Prime minister has responded through his official spokesman said:
"The Prime Minister opened Cabinet by saying the country is facing significant industrial action across a range of sectors this winter and that this will be a challenging period to get through. He added that the Government had been fair and reasonable in its approach to agreeing the independent pay review bodies' recommendations for public sector pay rises and in facilitating further discussion with unions and employers."
