Police have confirmed that a 68-year old man has been severely injured following a shark attack on Tuesday morning.

It is believed the man was swimming around Anaehoomalu Bay in
Hawaii around 8am when he was attacked by a 12 foot tiger shark. The victim is said to have bitten in the lower left torso with witnesses saying 'got a good chunk of the left side of his back rear.' The man is only thought to have survived the savage attack as he fought the shark with a diving knife and the animal eventually released the swimmer.

The unnamed man was assisted by paddleboarders to shore, and was taken to hospital for immediate treatment, he is now said to be in a stable condition.

Anthony Singh a witness to the horrific attack has said:
"It was hectic, it was brutal."

Horrifyingly this is the the second shark attack to have happened in Hawaii recently. Last week it is reported that a woman went missing and is feared dead after she and her husband reportedly got into a fight with a shark while snorkelling off the island of Maui.
